The Clear Lake Sailing Center is looking forward to another great year of sailing. Head instructors and are certified by the US Sailing program, with a water safety component as part of the certification. Please register early—at least 3 weeks prior to your session—as we are limiting class size.

Part of our Morning Sailing School Class. A foundational course for youth ages 5+ and new to sailing.
Prerequisite: None
Skills Taught:
Water safety
Basic boat parts
Wind identification (speed and direction)
Rigging and de-rigging with instructors
Points of sail
Basics of steering and sail trim
Boats Utilized: Optimist (younger students), X Boat (older students)

Part of our Morning Sailing School Class. Build confidence and independence as a sailor. Intended for youth ages 5+.
Prerequisite: Mastery of Introduction to Sailing or equivalent experience
Skills Taught:
Reinforcement of skills from Introduction to Sailing
Independent rigging and de-rigging
Steering to a destination
Advanced sail trim
Tacking, gybing, and docking with assistance
Capsize recovery
Essential knots
Boats Utilized: Sail Cube, Optimist, X Boat, O’pen BIC

Part of our Morning Sailing School Class. Introduction to the fundamentals of sailboat racing.
Prerequisite: Mastery of Intermediate Sailing or equivalent experience
Duration: 1 week
Skills Taught:
Boat handling for speed
Course navigation (W/L, Trapezoid, etc.)
Starting strategies and collision avoidance
Basic racing strategy and right-of-way rules
Sportsmanship and fair play
Boats Utilized: Optimist (students may use their own boats or school boats)

Enhance racing skills for club and ILYA competitions. This class is open to both skippers and crew that have participated in club racing in the past and up and coming sailors who would like to advance.
Prerequisite: Mastery of Advanced Sailing or Optimist Racing
Skills Taught:
Fine-tuning boat handling for speed
Course navigation for X Boats
Advanced starting techniques
Strategic awareness of wind and fleet dynamics
In-depth review of racing rules and scenarios
Sportsmanship and fair play
Boats Utilized: X Boat (students may use their own boats or school boats)

Clear Lake Sailing School Boat Grant Program
Clear Lake Sailing School offers a boat grant program for individuals who meet specific sailing and racing criteria. Applicants must submit their applications by December 31st for boat use in the following year.
